The City of Kirkland uses a number of permit type designations. Each permit designator contains the same
basic elements. For example, let's use ADR99-00002. Broken down, the first three letters tell you what type
of permit you're dealing with. In this case, an Administrative Design Review permit. The next number "99" is
the year the permit application was received. The number following that "-00002" is the actual number for
that specific permit. The first three letters will change depending on the type of permit you're looking for.
There are a number of Permit types. The following list will assist you determine what the three letters
stand for. If for example you were interested in all of the Administrative Design Review permits applied
for in 1999 you could enter ADR99-, "ADR" for the type of the permit and "99" for the year. You would be
presented with all Administrative Design Review permits that were applied for in 1999.
The department responsible for administering each permit type is also identified. In many cases a number
of departments may be involved with the review of a permit. For example, a new commercial building permit
application would be reviewed by Building, Fire, Planning and Public Works for compliance with the regulations
that each department is charged with enforcing, but the Building Division would administer the entire
review process. If you have a question or concern regarding a specific permit, please contact the department
that you believe is most appropriate to answer your questions. If you're not certain which department to
contact, then contact the department responsible for administering that permit type.
